Jaunty Jackalope aka 9.04 is going to be released on the 23rd of April.
And if this is not a good enough excuse for you to party... it is going to be the tenth release
of Ubuntu!
Come join us all for the Ubuntu festivities on the 25th of April in Dublin.
The Irish Ubunteros will first meet for lunch at 1.30pm at Jimmy Chung's 8 Eden Quay, and then cross the river Liffey and make themselves comfortable in Messrs Maguire on Burgh Quay, near O'Connell Bridge, from 3pm.
Demos of Ubuntu 9.04, conversations about Ubuntu, GNU/Linux, and FOSS to be expected as well as general socializing and putting names to faces.
Looking forward to celebrating the latest release of Ubuntu with you all!
From the folks at freenode, where most of us hang out on irc. They are encouraging geeks to take a step away from the pc and come out to the parks and meet one another. Dublin is going to be the 2nd Geeknic and is going to take place in St.Stephens Green.
So what is a Geeknick I hear you say, well a geeknic is rather simply a picnic for geeks. Throughout 2009, freenode are planning (and helping others plan) geeknics all over the world. Anywhere there are geeks, we would love to see a geeknic happen.
So what happens at a geeknic? Well, it will vary by location, by what is available at the site, and by the decisions of the planners of each individual geeknic. No two geeknics will be the same, but they will all be exciting and fun events for local geeks. The common theme is meeting in the outdoors (something unusual for us geeks) and having a good time.
When possible, many geeknics will be attended by freenode staff, but regardless we’re here and happy to help promote geeknics, so if you need help and would like to organize your very own local geeknic, let us know at geeknic@geeknic.org.
And you can register letting the nice folks know you are coming by going here http://geeknic.org/?page_id=28
they have also just added a Wiki (http://wiki.geeknic.org/index.php/Dublin_2009)
